Daniel Swain Brown – Camp Director of Camp Stomping Ground
SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (April 2026) — Bright Sighted Media has released a new episode of The Good Stuff, featuring Daniel Swain Brown, camp director of Camp Stomping Ground. In this episode, Daniel shares his journey from a lifelong camper to leading one of the most innovative summer camps in the country, as well as his work expanding youth leadership opportunities through Youth Squared.
Nestled just south of the Adirondack Mountains, Camp Stomping Ground is a two-week overnight summer camp for children ages 6 to 14. The camp is built on a unique philosophy that prioritizes autonomy, creativity, and trust—giving kids the space to explore, make decisions, and learn through play. A key part of its mission is accessibility, operating on a trust-based sliding scale that allows families from a wide range of financial backgrounds to attend.
Throughout the conversation, Daniel reflects on how camp shaped his own life, especially growing up with limited resources. What began as a place to find mentorship and belonging eventually became his calling.
A defining element of Camp Stomping Ground is its approach to conflict resolution. Rather than avoiding difficult moments, the camp embraces them as opportunities for growth. Through guided conversations and a restorative model, campers learn how to navigate disagreements, understand different perspectives, and build stronger connections with peers from backgrounds they may not encounter in their everyday lives.
Beyond the summer months, Daniel is helping lead Youth Squared, a youth-driven organization focused on social action and community impact. The program empowers middle and high school students to identify issues they care about—from food insecurity to mental health—and take meaningful steps to address them. With mentorship and resources, participants turn ideas into real-world projects, building confidence and leadership skills along the way.
“What’s something that’s hurting your heart?” Daniel said. “That’s where it starts. From there, we figure out how to take action.”
Together, Camp Stomping Ground and Youth Squared create a powerful pipeline for youth development—starting with connection and self-discovery, and growing into leadership and community impact.
