What is my niche? This is a question many podcasters and business owners find themselves asking themselves at some point or another… This is important as niche-ing down is what has lead the the success of many podcasters (and business owners).
Kinda crazy how much they go hand-and-hand*
When you are uploading your podcast to your Media Host of choice (I use Libsyn), you’ll have the opportunity to pick 3 Categories via Apple Podcast/ iTunes. Make sure to pick the niche inside the niche. (Don’t just choose: “Arts,” choose “Arts>Food.”) The more you niche the faster your podcast would grow.
(When I first started, this didn’t make sense to me. I thought? I want everyone to listen to my podcast, so I should choose the broad categories first, right? No. Wrong, Christine.)
You grow faster, the more you niche down. You first appeal to the people in your niche, and then you will most-likely appeal to people outside of your niche.
Also, if you find a niche with less podcasts in it, then your show will most-likely rank more-quickly.
So, first choose your category that most fits with your show and then choose 2 more.
By the way, Apple Podcast, is the FIRST place you should submit your show for approval.
